About us
The Federation of Swiss Protestant Churches (FSPC) is an alliance of 26 Protestant churches (24 Reformed cantonal churches, the Evangelical Methodist Church in Switzerland and the Église évangélique libre de Genève). In terms of population in 2000 the FSPC thus represented around 2.4 million Protestants. The FSPC represents the concerns of Swiss Protestantism at a national and an international level. Organized as an association, it is governed by the Council (nine members) under the leadership of Rev. Thomas Wipf. The FSPC head office is in Berne and it also has an office in Geneva.
The FSCP is a conversation-partner with, among others, the federal authorities and national secular and religious organizations like the Conference of Swiss Bishops and the Federation of Swiss Jewish Communities. At an international level the FSPC represents its members, for example, in the World Council of Churches (WCC), in the World Alliance of Reformed Churches (WARC), in the Conference of European Churches (CEC) and in the Community of Protestant Churches in Europe (CPCE).
The two agencies, Aid Agency of the Protestant Churches of Switzerland (HEKS) and Bread for All (BFA), along with the Diaconia Conference and the Women’s Conference, have arisen out of the Federation.
The FSPC head office employs around 35 people in the Ecumenical Relations division, the Institute for Theology and Ethics (ITE), the Central Services and the Communication department. The member churches support the FSPC budget with contributions of Sfr 5.8 million. This includes Sfr 900,000 which the FSPC passes on as contributions to organizations. The supreme organ of the Federation is the Assembly of Delegates (AoD).
